Juniper Capital is excited and honored to have one our colleagues, MaryAnn Blake as one of thirteen women in Washington nominated for the American Heart Association Woman of Impact campaign. As part of the 2024 class of changemakers she will be able to drive change, bring awareness and raise funds during the campaign kicking off February 2 and going until April 5. The movement continues its venerable tradition of educating, empowering and inspiring women to reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease.

Why Go Red for Women? is an advocacy and education campaign created to fundamentally change the way women think about proactive heart health and invest in groundbreaking and critical women-focused research and advocacy The AHA will be celebrating their Centennial in 2024, and they have 100 years of incredible research, policy changes, and community impact. But the work is far from over. Cardiovascular disease remains the #1 killer of women – it devastates so many of our mothers, wives, sisters, friends, neighbors, our peers, our employees and maybe even you and your family. Nearly half (44%) of women in the United States, age 20 and up, are living with some form of cardiovascular disease, and many of our minority groups are disproportionately impacted by cardiovascular disease.

I am passionate about heart health because it is a family genetic disease that affects me personally. My paternal grandmother had heart disease at a very young age and my father has heart disease and was legally pronounced dead for 8 minutes last January from a heart attack. He was brought back with his wife knowing how to administer CPR right away until the paramedics were able to use defibrillator paddles. I am beyond blessed and grateful for all the medical staff, surgeons, and for the life-saving research that has been done to continue his life.

This February – American Heart Month — we must continue raising our voices until cardiovascular disease is no longer the number one killer of women. Now is the time to discuss the importance of knowledge, awareness and prevention with our communities, businesses, and other organizations. It is together that we make the real difference. So, I hope that you will join me in supporting women taking measures to work towards a heart-heathy world.

Juniper Capital will be sponsoring a heart health event in the next 9 weeks (more details to follow soon) to raise money and awareness. 100% of donations will go to the American Heart Association.
