Folks in the Pacific Northwest, congratulations! You’ve done well. In Washington State alone, more than half of the population has been fully vaccinated and about 60% of the population has received their first Covid-19 vaccination. In King County—where we’re headquartered, it’s even better: Nearly 70% of residents have taken both rounds of vaccinations, and 77.6% have one shot completed. We’re on our way! Keep it up.
The implications for “life as normal” are great: Lighter facemask restrictions, more reopened businesses (and less “Zooming,” hallelujah!), more people being able to visit with friends and loved ones, and of course, fewer deaths and serious illness from Covid-19. Even with the emergence of the new Delta variant of the virus, with two vaccines in the arm, the future looks bright as trials show great resistance!
The summer solstice falls on Father’s Day this year, which is June 20. It’s time to get the grill fired up, whether that takes shape in outdoor entertaining at home, on a boat, picnicking, or campouts. AAA of Washington has reported that staycations and road trips are expected to be at an all-time high this summer, so plan your summer fun early (and often!).
We’ve weathered so much in the past 16 months, all of us. Americans are a resilient lot, and we have felt the impacts of these lockdowns, socially and economically. All we can say at the moment socially is to have some fun this summer – barbecue, go to Yellowstone, attend a Little League baseball game or Mariners, eat a Snow Cone, hang out at the lake, enjoy the fireworks, watch an outdoor movie, camp with your friends, boat if you haven’t already, fly to a new destination, hug your family and just have yourself some a great summer! You deserve it!
