Building on the success of our summer intern program, we are pleased to introduce our newest team member and intern, Adam. Adam attends Washington State University (WSU) and is eager to continue exploring the world of business and finance. Over the summer, he has been assisting the Juniper team with a variety of research projects and tasks related to our private lending services. We’ve been excited to have Adam on board and look forward to seeing how his experience with us shapes his upcoming junior year and future career.

After wrapping up my sophomore year at Washington State University, I have enjoyed every minute of being a student, but I also try to look for opportunities to better myself for the future. I have helped myself by attending networking nights at WSU to talk with professionals in my desired field—and maybe my future boss one day. Networking has become very important to me because, while school has helped build my skills to be a great worker, it’s also about “who you know,” especially in the current job market.

“Additionally, the skills that I continue to develop include communication, leadership, and problem-solving. These skills have helped me excel in interviews, which has led to me landing jobs at different well-respected companies, including an internship at Juniper Capital, where I will grow and learn more about the world of finance.”

Before starting this internship at Juniper Capital, all I could think about was, “What if I’m not ready?” or “What if I don’t fit in?” I felt this way because I was stepping into a completely new workplace and didn’t know what to expect. I wanted to make a great impression on my peers at work, and the fear of failing weighed on me. Nonetheless, these initial doubts came from how much I cared about this opportunity and how badly I wanted to learn.

As my internship started, my initial nerves began to fade as I quickly found myself fitting in and feeling trusted in the workplace. I could not have asked for a better start to an internship. This is because Kurt and his entire team have treated me like an important employee and not just a “regular” intern since the very first day. Their desire to put me in an important role—where I do meaningful tasks that truly impact the company—has made me feel well respected and genuinely excited to come to work every day.

During my time here so far, I’ve worked on a fair number of important projects, including creating a map listing all the projects we have worked on since 2013. This can be used to show future clients where we have worked and that we are accustomed to doing business all over the Pacific Northwest. Another key project I worked on was arranging a comprehensive list of all our vendors, organized by their all-time interest amount earned since partnering with Juniper Capital. These two projects have allowed me to develop crucial skills in data analysis and organization while gaining knowledge of Juniper’s partnerships and performance results. Being around this type of work has strengthened my knowledge and confidence, leading to my growing passion in this field.

“Overall, my internship at Juniper Capital has been an incredible experience. The supportive environment made it easy to ask questions and grow—both personally and professionally. I’ve continued to build on the skills I brought into the internship while also learning new ones, including data analysis.”

As my internship comes to a close, I’ve had the opportunity to dive into how deal reports are structured and written. Learning how to evaluate financials and present recommendations has given me a clearer picture of the decision-making process in private lending. It was incredibly rewarding to be part of projects that required both critical thinking and collaboration. This experience has not only sharpened my technical skills but also reinforced my passion for pursuing a career in finance.

Now, as I prepare to head back to WSU for my junior year, I’m excited to take everything I’ve learned and apply it in the classroom and beyond. Though I’ll miss the dynamic energy of the workplace and the incredible team I’ve worked with, I’m looking forward to being back around my friends, tackling new challenges, beating the Huskies, and continuing to explore my passion for business and finance.
